In light of recent events, I thought it’d be good to move on and look ahead to the season. Spots have suddenly opened up and there’s more than one way to skin a cat so am interested to see how people are thinking with regards to our line up now that we’ve gotten rid of he who shall not be named.

Anyway, here’s how i’d like to see us line up against the drag queens round 1.

01. Hampton
02. Feldt
03. Tuala
04. O’Neill
05. Macdonald
06. Clifford
07. Morgan
08. Mclean
09. Granville
10. Mcguire
11. Cooper
12. Hess
13. Taumalolo

14. Baptise
15. Bolton
16. Asiata
17. Scott

18. Jensen

Really hope Greeny doesn’t throw TMM at fullback. Hampton is safe and has done the job there in the past. Think he could really thrive knowing the jersey is his for this year.

Hoping Thumper can dominate in his lesser role in coming off the bench. Could be a nightmare for opposition sides coming off the bench.

Think one of Hampton /Tmm gives us more off the bench than Baptiste but is Clifford ready or give him a bit more time. Any possibility he could cover bench utility

I actually don’t mind the suggestion of Feldt at fullback. However, he hasn’t really played there (in first grade at least) and feel 5 weeks is probably too short a time frame to throw him in there and expect to be confident and ready for round 1. Feel as if Hampton is the more reliable/safer option , though if Greeny goes left field and picks Feldt, it’ll be very exciting and probably has the most upside or biggest ceiling in terms of the success it could bring if he does well in the role.

No to TMM at fullback for me.

Hampton may be our best option. He was quite strong at fullback at times. Unfortunately I'm not sure who will be our bench utility now. Stacking the bench with four forwards is not cool and has created problems in the past.

.......on second thoughts - it may be best leaving Hampton on the bench.

Surely we can find a decent fullback out of Carlin Anderson, Enari Tuala, Murray Taulagi and Nene MacDonald.

TMM is the best all around fullback option at the club for mine. I feel like him at fullback would play to the strengths of the combo he had with Morgo in 2017.

Speed is the only area where Hampton has him beat IMO. It will depend on the game plan though, perhaps the raw speed of Hampton would better suit for the balance of the spine.

Wouldn't be against trying Feldt there either.

Wont happen, but perhaps put clifford there. I reckon it did wonders for Morgos game perception & management

We seem to have a lot of centres/wingers. One of them must be able to make a decent fullback. I'm curious to see what this Dan Russell has to offer. How fast is Kurt Wiltshire?

What is wrong with Baptiste on the bench. Wasn’t that the idea to have a specialist hooker on the bench rather than a bit parts player?

I think this Barba thing is going to allow us to play Morgan, Clifford and TMM and will work our nicely. I like Hampton but don’t see him as being elite enough to make the good teams worry but he would do an ok job against the tigers etc.

I'd like Baptiste on the bench just for the fact that it will put pressure on Granville and give us a genuine option if he struggles again this year.

OK. If Baptiste is on the bench with three other forwards who on the bench can play in the backs. I'm tired of seeing us get an injury in the backs and out entire game going to pieces. Hampton at hooker/replacement back gives us flexibility to deal with the problem. Can Baptiste play in the backs?

Would rather have a really strong dummy half as 95 percent of the time that is going to be what the sub is used for. On the off chance that a back goes down we can push Gavin cooper to centre or Asiata into the halves.

No to Cooper in backs. I forgot about Asiata. If he is in the team I would be happy for him to fill in for an injury in the backs.

Just acknowledge there is an opportunity cost to specifically carrying a back on the bench. I don’t love cooper in centres but I think we will lose less games by not carrying a back than by not carrying a specialist hooker.

Hampton offers more overall utility.

Baptiste offers more genuine hooker option.

will be interesting to see what Greeny does. Asiata is defs an option as mentioned to flip into
the halves and move
one of them into the outside backs.

Hooker is imo the most vital role in the team as you have your hands on the ball every play, but versatility is also key when trying to cover all bases. There’s decent arguments for a few scenarios.

I’m still in team #feldtyforfullback though. The backline is so up in the air at the moment, last weeks f$&@tardery has thrown a huge spanner in the works.

I think Baptiste on the bench to reinforce the hooking rotation is definitely the way to go. How often were we all complaining at the utter trash served up by Granville at times last year? I would hope we have learned from that and try to improve that area. I like Ben Hampton and think he has a role to play for us this season but Baptiste is a genuine hooker and from what I've seen in the past provides good service and makes good decisions which is Granville's main pitfall.

I think it's important to give the new halves combo every chance to excel and continued poor service from dummy half will just put them under pressure. I wouldn't even be opposed to Baptiste starting if Jake has a slow start. Utilising his running game against a tired middle third coming off the bench could be an enticing option while limiting his weaknesses.

Yes, Baptiste over Granville if Granville gets off to a slow start.

Last year may have been a bit of an anomaly as our forwards did not get us over the advantage line as well as they have in previous years. Hookers tend to benefit from a forward pack that is rolling forward really well so Granville may return to form if that happens.
