Bit out there but has Gela Mosby ever played fullback? I don't particularly care about how good/bad his defence might be (Bowen was never great in D) but is he safe under the high ball? I need to see this guy in the backline somewhere, his speed is too valuable to leave in QCUP.

At this stage I think our strongest backline is:

1. Jordan Kahu
2. Kyle Feldt
3. Ben Hampton
4. Nene McDonald
5. Gideon Gela Mosby

He has a few times, looked lost IMO. Wing or nothing for mine and I'd have Nene ahead of him there.

Out of the three mentioned, Hampton is the one with the most spark and energy about him.

What about this Murray Taulagi? I watched some highlights on him. He seems to have a lot more than a running wingers game. Passing. Kicking. Hitting a gap. I trust we won't make the same mistake as we did with you know who. Need to give these young guys a go.

Even Wiltshire sounds handy. Wing, centre. Why not fullback. No-one even talked about Morgan at fullback before he actually played there.

EDIT: Nene MacDonald lists Matty Bowen and Greg Inglis as his favourite players. If this is the case, he might have his eyes on the fullback spot. Wouldn't blame him.
Morgan came out the other day and said he has no desire to play Fullback and that Greeny backs him 100%

Ideally i'd love to see Feld and Nene on the wings... such size! much leaps! wow!.... but I just can't leave GGM out of the backline and if he can't play centre or FB then id move Nene for the greater good. Our options for centre are pretty middle-of-the-road IMO (Opacic, Tuala, JBowen, O'Neill) so if moving Nene into centres can allow for GGM then im all for it.

Nene has had trouble defending at centre, that's the only thing.

I think Tuala is a potential star and Kahu is a decent centre, depends if he is fullback though.

Will be interesting to see what sort of team is named for the trial.

Hearing that we've upgraded Peter Hola to the 30-man squad for the year and signed him to a 4-year deal. Played for the Junior Kiwis last year and linked with the Pride I think. 18 year old who plays second row but can't find too much else about him.

Seems like we rate him. Playing 2nd row in the qcup at 18 is a decent feat. Hope he goes on with it.

Great re-signing. Just the 1 Cup game in 2018 but he ran for 85 metres, broke 4 tackles and made 15 tackles without a miss in just 32 minutes off the bench.

Came off the bench for the Junior Kiwis last year as well and ran for 94 metres in 46 minutes and made 13 tackles with none missed.

More of a middle forward than a second rower, was named mostly at lock for the Pride's U20s last year.

This is the guy Jase name dropped earlier in the preseason as someone who was putting in a great offseason. Glad to see the work rewarded, sounds like a great prospect in a position we need young blood

Somebody must rate him, am i right in thinking 4yrs is a long contract for somewhat limited experience & so young.

It seems to be becoming more common now with promising young players.

Kahu could turn to rugby
Jordan Kahu’s one-year deal with the Cowboys is a stop-gap solution.

Kahu, who is likely to explore the potential of switching codes to rugby union at the end of the year, will fill the role vacated by Ben Barba’s exit.

But that doesn’t mean the Cowboys have given up hope of Valentine Holmes coming to the club as early as this year.

Holmes will take part in an NFL combine next month, testing himself against some of the best aspiring NFL players in the United States.

From there any of the 32 clubs will be able to express interest in signing him, however there is a chance he is unable to land a spot on a franchise roster.

If he wants to return to the NRL in 2019 he has a contract with Cronulla stipulating he must return to the Sharks.

Given the NRL’s investigation into the club’s salary cap, and the fact they’ve since signed Shaun Johnson, it’s unlikely Holmes could return to the Sutherland Shire.

Cronulla have already indicated they would entertain the idea of allowing him to join another club.

The Cowboys are holding out hope that happens sooner rather than later.

They are willing to part ways with the likes of Ethan Lowe, which will free up some cap space to accommodate Holmes’ potential arrival.

Cowboys release Lowe
Cowboys.com.au
Tue 26 Feb 2019, 10:49 AM

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have today granted Ethan Lowe an immediate release from the final year of his contract.

A member of the club’s maiden 2015 premiership-winning squad, Lowe played 108 games over six seasons after debuting in 2013.

Cowboys Director of Football Peter Parr thanked Lowe for his service to the club.

“We are disappointed to see Ethan go, but we felt in the end it was in everyone’s best interest to grant him a release,” Parr said.

“Ethan has been a wonderful player for our club, he appeared in more than 100 games, two grand finals and was an integral part of our first ever premiership.

“Everyone at our club would like to thank Ethan for his contribution and time in Cowboys colours and wish him all the best for the future.”

Lowe also expressed his gratitude to the club and region on Tuesday.

“I would like to thank the Cowboys, members and fans for making my time in North Queensland one of the best experiences of my life,” Lowe said.

“Being part of the 2015 grand final win and the weeks that followed was something I will never forget.

“North Queensland will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Ethan officially released to Souffs.

Thanks for the memories Theon. The 2015 players are slowly disappearing.....
I feel like he could be in for a decent year based on that trial game on the weekend but sometimes it's best to let go and start fresh, for both the player and the club.

All the best to Lowey, he'll always be in the history books as part of the first premiership winning team.

I’ll always remember lowey, weeks after the premiership win, beer in one hand, premiership trophy in the other, parading it around the entertainment centre during a mid week tsv crocs game. He was an integral part of our maiden premiership. Genuinely hope he rediscovers that form at Souths. Great servant of our club!
