Payne names Qld U20s trio
Tue 30th May, 04:05PM

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Under-20s coach Aaron Payne has named his 23-man squad for Saturday’s Round 13 National Youth Competition match against the Gold Coast Titans.

Looking to snap a four-game losing streak, the NYC Cowboys will be without regular halfback Jake Clifford (groin) and strike centre Enari Tuala (broken jaw), but get interchange forward Solomon Vasuvulagi back from an ankle injury.

Payne has also named Queensland Under-20s trio Corey Horsburgh, Mitch Dunn and Hiale Roycroft to play the Titans following Wednesday’s State of Origin curtain-raiser against the young Blues side.

This looks like it will be a tough game, considering who we have out and the fact we've lost four in a row. Hiale Roycroft got injured in the U20 Origin so there could be another loss there. KP in the halves would be interesting to see. He played a couple of games there last year. Might get to see the best of Murray Taulagi as well with his move to fullback.

The Titans are 5th and probably having their best NYC season since like 2008-09. Theyre on a 3 game winning streak which started with a win over us at Cudgen. They have 5 players backing up from U20 Origin but AJ Brimson looked to be cradling his arm at full time so he may be out. That would be a plus, as he's in great form this year. They'll most likely have two first graders in TRD and Max King playing, which adds to the difficulty. Keegan Hipgrave could make his first appearance for the Titans. He's a great mid-season pick up who had a good game on Wednesday night.

They concede a lot of points, even for an NYC side (360 points against, third highest in the comp). When we played a few weeks back, they lead something like 24-0 and we fought back to take the lead. Could be another shootout on Saturday.
