NQ featuring in Qld U18 Origin side

31/05/2011

Five North Queensland Toyota Cowboys players have been named in the Queensland under-18 team to play against New South Wales as the main curtain-raiser to the second State of Origin match at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on 15 June.

Included in the squad announced by the QRL today are NYC regulars Zac Santo, Chris Grevsmuhl and Anthony Gadd, as well as Luke Abdul-Rahman and Jack Kelleher, who played for the Townsville Stingers in the recent Mal Meninga Cup.

Santo, from Charters Towers, has been outstanding on the wing for the Cowboys since making his Toyota Cup debut in the first month of the season and has been chosen at fullback for the Maroons.

Grevsmuhl’s selection in the front-row adds to his representation with the Australian under-18s last year.

The forward from Brothers in Townsville has crossed for six tries in eight appearances for the fourth-placed Cowboys in 2011.

Abdul-Rahman, named at five-eighth, is an Upper Ross Rams junior who has also represented Queensland Schoolboys, while Kelleher, from Western Lions and a Cowboys scholarship holder, will start in the second-row.

Kelleher will come into North Queensland’s under-20s squad in 2012.

Back-rower Gadd, from Albany Creek in Brisbane, has previously played for the Queensland and Australian schoolboys and will come off the interchange bench.

The Queenslanders will be coached by Brendan Lam and go into camp on Friday week.
