It really should make little difference now. Thanks to what Billy has set in place over the years, the Club & players no the drill and what is required fitness wise to be at the top. So hopefully Billy has left an everlasting legacy.

Good luck at the Titans BJ & thanks for what you have brought to our club. :salute:

Titans sign NRL fitness guru Johnstone

March 14, 2006 - 2:24PM

Respected strength and conditioning coach Billy Johnstone has signed a three-year deal with new NRL club the Gold Coast Titans.

The Kangaroos, Queensland Origin and North Queensland conditioner will head to the tourist strip at the end of this season as the Titans prepare to enter the 2007 competition.

Johnstone, 47, was the Gold Coast Giants' inaugural signing and captained the first national rugby league team in the region.

"It'll be good to go back - it's where I finished my playing career," said Johnstone, who has three children living on the Gold Coast.

"It's great to have top class footy back there and I am pleased to be involved."

Johnstone, a former top-shelf light-middleweight boxer, was credited with instilling toughness into the Bulldogs camp in the late 1990s before joining the Cowboys in 2002.

"I've known him, played against him and watched the success he's achieved in his position," said Titans coach John Cartwright.

"He is exactly what we are after at the Titans.

"He is renown for his training ethic as a boxer and a footballer and wherever he's been, success follows."

Titans chief executive Michael Searle said he was ecstatic that Johnstone would join the fledgling club following the recent announcement of Test halfback Scott Prince's four-year deal.

"We consider the signing of Billy Johnstone one of our most important to date," said Searle.

"There is no doubt that as a conditioner he is the benchmark within the NRL and his appointment finalises our coaching roster."

Well, now we know that any player looking to 'retire' to the Titans is in for a really big shock :blackeye:.

hehe - If Billy had fun riding with players out to Charters Towers and back, he's going to love the hills down that way :sign5:.

lol, nah.. I'm sure we'll be ok now.. He's set the benchmark for long enough now. I'm sure that things won't get easier because he's leaving. At least I hope not. Our fitness is one of our great aspects.

Best of luck Billy, and thanks for doing a fantastic job with the Cowboys.
Now you can work some wonders with my 2nd favourite team.

It makes me proud, the spirit on these forums. Last year, the attitude to Matty Bowen contemplating leaving was, "Hope not, but good luck if you do and thanks for the memories" and also, "The club is more important than any player"

Now, the sentiments expressed above reflect my own and are what makes the club and its fans, special.

Give yourselves a round of applause.

I believe that one of his main jobs here was to change the lossing culture in the club

that he has done ,he has made then believe that no matter how far behind on the score board that they are in with a chance of winning

I credit about 85 percent of our achievements to him
he will leave his mark in that locker room and no player that comes thru the program anymore will remember the losing times .

it is of course up to the cowboys to now get someone in there (maybe Billys assistant trainer -Murphy i think )to keep it going and not let it drift back to the old days ,I dont think the players would let that happen any way after the success of the last three
years

and the first thing they should do is not let the next trainer that come in hook the airconditioners back up

Titans to muscle up with guru

Mick Daly

March 15, 2006

TITANS chief executive Michael Searle last night said the signing of Cowboys strength and conditioning guru Billy Johnstone was a clear indicator the club would not be a holiday home for new recruits.

In a major coup, the Test team and Queensland Origin conditioner yesterday agreed to a three-year deal with the Titans, who enter the NRL next season.

Searle said Johnstone's addition ensured the club would only attract players who were serious about achieving on-field success.

"It sends a strong message that this isn't going to be a place where guys come to have a good time," he said.

"If Billy does deter guys from coming here, then that is a benefit to us because we know they aren't the kind of players we want anyway."

Coach John Cartwright said Johnstone's impressive record with the Bulldogs and Cowboys made the former light-middleweight boxing champion a crucial signing.

He said Johnstone's renowned toughness and work ethic epitomised the type of culture the Titans planned to build.

"We've gone and got the best strength and conditioning coach in the NRL," Cartwright said.

"Billy's a winner and it's no coincidence that everywhere he has gone success has followed."

Canberra Raiders prop Josh Miller has vowed to play again in the NRL this season despite a crippling knee injury.

Michael Hodgson will replace the 23-year-old in the starting line-up for the Raiders' clash against Newcastle on Sunday.
