IGNATIUS Park College rugby league coach Dave Elliott was stoked to have seven players in his open boys team receive contracts with the 2010 Toyota Cup under-20 Cowboys side.

Michael Morgan, Josh Rose, Kyle Feldt, Alex Elisala, Nathan Cowley, Jay Lobwein and Kurtis Ritchie were all selected in a Cowboys squad of 30.

''This is the most we have had contracted from the school,'' Elliott said.

''It's something we try and do as a school - develop the boys for their futures.''

Morgan (also Australian and Queensland representative) has already experienced playing for the under-20s side.

Many of the other players had scholarships with the Cowboys and were over the moon to receive their first contracts with the club.

Elisala, 17, was the only player of the seven who did not have a scholarship with the Cowboys and was overwhelmed to receive his late contract.

''Alex had a good season,'' Elliott said.

The players were part of a highly successful Ignatius Park league team which was undefeated through the season until they lost in ARL Arrive Alive semi-final to Kirwan High School.

The players have enjoyed a short break since the school season finished but will swing back into action when the Under-20 squad begins pre-season training in a couple of weeks' time.

With the NRL the focus for all of the players, Elliott said it would be a major adjustment for them to get used to their new training schedules.

''They will go from training three times a week to seven or eight times a week in the pre-season - it will be tough for them,'' Elliott said.

''We've tried to instill the importance of eating right and looking after themselves during their time here at school and hopefully they will continue it when they leave.

''It's going to be a tough schedule and the boys will have to learn to juggle their training and their work, but hopefully they will be able to handle it and they'll just have to make sure they look after themselves.''
