basically to make the 8 we need to win by 40 + and need Raiders to lose by 40+? i just worked it out. if if we win by exactly 40 and Raiders lose by exactly 40 our P/D is equal. if this somehow occurs does NRL have a plan for if a team has the same P/D?

I suspect the countback rules would be the same as for the NRL .... which I can't find :crying:
I do remember there are about 10 of them -> points differential first, about 8 that I can't remember, and finishing with a coin toss if the first 9 don't separate the teams

Toyota Cup cut in quarters
Thursday, September 03, 2009
The Sydney Roosters last Toyota Cup game against the North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday at the Sydney Football Stadium will be something of a first.
A four quarter system, which is usually seen during the pre-season and early rounds of the premiership when matches are played in searing heat, will be trialed for the first time in a competition match.
The break in play will allow for an additional one minute stoppage between each half around the 20 and 60 minute marks. Play will then restart at the conclusion of the station break.
A similar commercial tactic is employed in American gridiron when the play breaks at the two minute warning mark before halftime and fulltime, allowing broadcasters to play advertisements.

Under-20s concentrate on winning
JOSH ALSTON
September 5th, 2009
THEY made need to post a cricket score to keep their finals hopes alive but the Cowboys under-20s are remaining focused on beating the Roosters and ending the season well.
The ninth-placed Cowboys sit two competition points behind Canberra and are 80 points below their for-and-against points.
To sneak into the finals, they would need to destroy the Roosters and hope the Broncos can produce a similar ambush on the Raiders this Monday night.
Coach Kristian Woolf said the players were not getting carried away with attempting a massive scoreline because it could backfire and see them end with a loss.
''We're just worrying about trying to get a win,'' he said.
''If we go in there trying to score a certain amount of points it can work in the opposite way.
''The back end of the season we've won more games than we've lost . . . it would be disappointing if we didn't win our last game and finish positively - especially against a team who we're ranked higher than and who we certainly want to beat after they beat us last time up here.''
The young Cowboys have won four out of the last six games and have grown in confidence throughout the season as they strived to jettison the wooden spoon they picked up in their maiden season.
While missing the finals would be disappointing, Woolf said the improvement shown by the club this season augured well.
''Last year we won four games and this year so far we've won 11 and we can finish on 12 wins,'' he said.
''The improvement's been good, we've come from wooden-spooners to - I don't want to write us off yet - eighth or ninth spot.
''The fact that we've got so many players next year is certainly an indication that we can continue to improve from there.
''That's going to be our aim for next year.
''On top of that, you've only got to look at the Townsville under-18s going very well and the North Queensland schoolboys going very well.
''We've got an influx of kids coming in from those two teams who are hopefully going to add to our depth and make us even stronger next year.''

Roosters NYC taken down
Sunday, September 06, 2009
The Sydney Roosters Toyota Cup side have suffered a 58-26 defeat to the North Queensland Cowboys at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The Roosters had Cowboys had no finals football to play for, however the incentive to go out on a high was there for booth to play for.
The Roosters snapped a losing streak earlier in the season with a hard fought win in Townsvillie against the same opponents but this time it was not to be.
The visitors got off to a flyer scoring twice inside the first nine minutes. The Cowboys opened their account in the 4th minute through their captain Dane Hogan as he slipped through the Roosters clutches. Former Roosters 20s player ben Cronin added the extras for a 6-nil lead. The second came moments later when fullback Wayne Ulugia crossed to extend the margin to 10.
The rampaging start did little to startle the home side who hit back through Sandor Earl in the 11th minute. The winger playing in the centres had little trouble finishing a move started by his teammates before crashing over. Luke Towers added the extras from out wide for a 12-6 score line.
The Tricolours hit the lead for the first time in the contest after Brad Murray stepped his way over the line. The Roosters halfback made the defence look pedestrian as he touched down next to the posts. The easier attempt for Towers ensured his side would take a 12-10 lead.
Three unanswered scores to the Cowboys had them with a handsome 12 point lead nine minutes from the break.
A 40/20 kicked by Murray was not enough to get his side closer to the Cowboys but the margin was eventually reduced to 10 when earl bagged his double. The wingers second gave the home side some momentum heading into the second period as the deficit was cut to six.
After the half time break both sides tussled for field position and it was the Tricolours coming up trumps when Murray kicked his second 40/20 of the match.
Off the back of that play the home side slid over in the corner through Luke Towers. Murray ran to the line out wide a dumped the ball off to the flying fullback to reduce the margin to two. Towers effort to convert his own four pointer shaved the uprights from the sideline.
The Cowboys margin was back out to six points courtesy of Troyden Watene who wriggled free of the Roosters defence. The second rower attracted the attention of three defenders but still managed to plant the ball down. Watene converted his own effort to put the margin back to two converted tries.
From there it was downhill fast for the Tricolours as the visitors ran in five tries to one in a devastating 23 minute final spell.
Towers saved some face for the home side with a memorable try that saw him seemingly beat the entire Cowboys side twice in between the onslaught.

Under-20 Cowboys bow out despite dominat win
JOSH ALSTON
September 7th, 2009

THE 2009 season has ended in heartbreak for the Cowboys under-20s who will miss the finals on for-and-against points despite flogging the Roosters 58-26 in Sydney.
The club has finished the season in ninth place and just 36 points shy of the eighth-placed Raiders who were dusted 36-24 by the Broncos yesterday.
It has been a remarkable turnaround for the young Cowboys who claimed the wooden spoon in their debut season with just four wins and three draws. But their record of 12 wins and 12 losses this season was not quite enough to put them into the finals.
The Cowboys were ruthless against the Roosters, putting them to the sword in a commanding second-half performance.
Three rapid-fire tries to Sam Hoare, Michael Parker-Walshe and Obe Geia turned an arm wrestle into a rout, with Geia and second-rower Troyden Watene bagging doubles. The win was also significant because the Cowboys had lost Ray Thompson to first grade, with young dynamos Michael Morgan and Parker-Walshe combining in the halves.
Coach Kristian Woolf praised the club's attacking flair and – with the majority of the players eligible to play again in 2010 – was hopeful of big things from them in the future.
''We were pretty happy with the way that we played for the majority of it, we scored some good tries especially late in the game,'' he said.
''It was certainly a positive to finish with a fairly dominant win.
''We look back at some of the very close losses that we had in some of the games we really should have won, I think it's fair to say we really should have been playing in the semi-finals.
''It's certainly disappointing but on the same note it's been a positive season in other ways.
`'We've had a pretty good record in the back end of the season so that should be pretty fresh in the players' minds when they come back for pre-season training. They should be confident for the start of next year and hopefully next year we're not just missing out.''
COWBOYS under-20s 58 (Obe Geia 2, Troyden Watene 2, Dane Hogan, Wayne Ulugia, Michael Morgan, Tyson Martin, James Segeyaro, Sam Hoare, Michael Parker-Walshe tries; Watene 4, Geia, Steven Eliot, Ben Cronin goals)
d ROOSTERS under-20s 26 (Luke Towers 2, Sandor Earl 2, Brad Murray try; Towers 3 goals)
