Wayne Ulugia - watch this kid go, he's only 16 & still at school. Heaps of potential.
Ray Thompson - also very promising & has been touted as our future playmaker. Only time will tell I suppose.

Cowboys under-20s get desperate

JOSH ALSTON
August 22nd, 2009

LIVING on the edge has become a common occurrence for the ninth-placed Cowboys under-20s in recent weeks and they are aiming to use that desperation against Newcastle tonight.

A win would keep the young Cowboys in the hunt for a finals berth while a loss would almost certainly rule them out of contention.

It is a fact not lost on any of the players and coach Kristian Woolf said they would draw on their recent run of good form to continue their charge for a maiden finals appearance.

''We've been in that position for the last couple of weeks where every win becomes a little bit more important if we want to stay in touch with the eight,'' he said.

The last time the two teams met was back in round 11 at Dairy Farmers Stadium where North Queensland belted the Knights 28-6. Languishing in 12th spot on the NYC ladder, Newcastle are out of the race but loom as a genuine nuisance for the Cowboys, with Woolf believing their results don't indicate their true potential.

''They're a very good side, they've got some dangerous players, in particular their back three,'' he said.

''They're coming off some very good performances. So we need to be more desperate than they are, the win means more to us.''

Gun halfback Michael Morgan (back sprain) will again be sidelined after failing a fitness test.
