Record Numbers, Global Audience

TODAY’S launch of the 2006 Queensland Wizard Cup season at Victoria Park Golf Course comes at a time when the competition is attracting a record following.

Statistics from the QRL website qrl.com.au show fans are regularly staying abreast of news from as far afield as India, Japan and Denmark.

While 71 per cent of the 15 million hits recorded in the last year originated from Australia, both Germany and Brazil rank in the top 10 for usage by country.

Last year QRL Footy Tipping featured a Canadian prize winner and others from Tasmania and Western Australia.

Only yesterday (Wed, March 8) qrl.com.au received 93,000 hits, the most since last year’s Harvey Norman State of Origin series and a record for 2006.

Interest in the coming rugby league season has seen boom numbers at trial games, while junior registrations across Queensland approach the 40,000 mark, up from 28,000 in season 2003.

Last year’s Bundaberg Rum trans Tasman Test featured eight players who had participated in the Queensland Wizard Cup, while over 100 ‘graduates’ participate in the NRL and English Super League.

Accordingly, the success of the Wizard Cup and other QRL development systems has led to increasing recognition from the media and general public.

Wynnum Manly recently received the honour of being voted Brisbane’s Most Lovable Sporting Club by listeners of top-rating Nova 106.9 FM.

A double-page spread in Friday’s The Courier-Mail Main Game section is predicted to reach a readership of 616,000 people across Queensland.
