New Mascot

Apparently every team has to come up with a mascot for channel 9.

What is our mascot and is there any pics of it yet?

I saw it on the Today show this morning & only got a couple of quick looks. I personally think it looks bloody awful. :pale: The old Bluey is still going to be around (thankfully) as they will both be in action on gamedays but IMO the new one doesn't look like Bluey one bit. I think the Sharkies came out of it worse than us tho!

Can't wait to have a better look tho.

The designs were done by Matthew Hatton, who designed Millie, Ollie etc for the Sydney Olympics.

The first image shows all the mascots (although they are a little small) and the second is the Cowboys with a black and white action pose.

I do have all the designs but lack the time and inclination to post them.

Hmm ... :scratch: .

They all are a bit 'toon~ish' (different than what is usually used, but in itself not a bad thing) and I think that ours is is not that bad (and as it grows on me in a few months I'll probably say it's good :geek:).

Now on the other hand, the Roosters and a couple of others wouldn't be out of place in a pokemon episode :tongue:. (and yes, for NRL mascots, that's something I don't like).

The Broncos one :whatthe:, to me looks like the unloved ofspring of a My Little Pony and Quick Draw McGraw :silent:.

I don't mind it but it's not a patch on the real Bluey. It will be interesting to see it in the flesh, so to speak. Might look like a cartoon version of the Warrington Wolves mascot.

Insofar as they've been created to target kids, which in the long run will draw more supporters, $$$$ and players to league, this is a good idea.

Asthetically, they are horrible. We've ended up with one of the better designs though. I feel so sorry for Penrith - their 'Panther' looks like a cockroach! The rest are all ho-hum.....

As an adult, I have to give the thumbs down. But, I guess these new gimmicks aren't meant to preach to the converted, are they?

The toon caracters might apeal to kids but they could have at least used the current jersey...

I think the AFL tried the same thing a few years ago, and from memory it failed dismally.
