Cowboys up-beat about new young guns

Monday, 13 February 2006. 09:11

North Queensland Cowboys' assistant coach Neil Henry says the club's five new recruits have proven they can handle the step up to the National Rugby League.

Henry says he is not phased by the 34-4 loss to the Broncos in Saturday's Queensland Rugby League trial at Rockhampton's Browne Park.

He says the Cowboys' young line-up was plagued by poor ball control and lacked momentum in attack, but there were some bright patches.

"Russell Aiken was good for us, we rotated him in the halves, Scott Smith held his own in the hooker department, Clint Amos was quite good for us - he was one of our best players - he was playing hooker and back row and Mark Henry who played in the centres played 80 minutes of football and he was solid too," he said.
