Faust in Queensland colours
June 11, 2008
RUGBY LEAGUE: The first time Proserpine product Chris Faust played in a State of Origin curtain-raiser, it was in front of a sea of blue at Telstra Stadium.
That was last year, when the talented backrower was part of Queensland's under 17 team that took on New South Wales before game two of the main series.
"We got flogged," Faust admitted of his team's 52-18 defeat. A crowd dominated by feisty New South Wales supporters didn't help Queensland's cause.
"They were really giving it to us," Faust said.
Tonight, Faust will again line up for Queensland in the under 18 side.
But this time, it will be in front of a passionate Queensland crowd at Suncorp Stadium and Faust and his team-mates will be eager to settle the score with NSW.
Faust said the team had enjoyed a strong preparation ahead of tonight's clash.
"We got to train against the main Origin team," he said.
"We've been training pretty good all week so far."
"I reckon we'll go all right."
Faust, 18, grew up in Proserpine where he played "most of my junior football for the Brahmans".
He moved to Townsville when he was in year 10 and attended renowned rugby league school Kirwin High.
He signed with the North Queensland Cowboys and has been an integral part of the Cowboy's under 20 Toyota Cup side this season.
Faust will be joined in the Queensland team by 17-year-old Mackay sensation Pat O'Hanlon.
A wide running second-rower, O'Hanlon is on a three year deal with NRL outfit Parramatta Eels and will link up with the club next year.
O'Hanlon plays for Brothers in the Mercury Cup.
Former Mackay junior Ryan Williamson, who is now playing for the Sydney Roosters in the Toyota Cup, was also named in the side but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
