Moved from the "4th Qld Team" Thread. http://www.cowboysstampede.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=7569&page=5

My bro in law is a lil' younger than me whose grandparents previously owned the house(yes I know, go figure Rita Islandites. Not sayin' anymore as I may get into trouble. No doubt leesee will tho) said it was 1958 when it was this high at their place last time. they've got wallabies, bandicootes, goannas, snakes, drums & lotsa pumpkins going past their place in the water. No crocs yet, told them to put some food in the pool, check the veranda before they go outside (can't trust crocs) & they may end up with a pool full of crabs & fish when the water finally goes down.

All my sister was worried about was what they were going to have to clean up. I said to her "I don't know why because that;'s womens work". Phone went dead after that, so the water must have got into the phone line. Still haven't heard back so their mobile phone must be down too.

We went over the Burdekin Bridge this morning & it was that high it looked like you could lean over the railing & touch the water.

It's a strange one tho as it seems to be coming in a different way as places that were higher in other floods are lower than my sisters place currently.

I'll send you & leesee some pics Thommo. And yes we are now cut off in 2 directions too. But we can't fish out the front.

The low is heading SQ's way so somewhere down there has unfortunately got to get the bad from it but surely it has to deliver some good too. This thread has taken a whole new meaning so maybe someone should start a new toppic on this.

This house & property are in a position that hasn't had the water this high since 1958. Annabranch bridge does flood fairly regularly as leesee said but the water gets no where near my sisters place. This place is on a steady rise from the bridge, then when you turn into their driveway you go higher & then the house has about 5 or 6 steps & to get in the carport you go up a ramp.

Pic ! - looks out from their verandah & across the road & raised cane train track.

Pic 2 - Front of house & carport.

Pic 3 - Shed on top of hill. 4 wallabies on the grass on left & just to the right behind the shed is their spare block & the water is probably about 15-20 feet deep at least.

Pic 4 - Taken just to the right of the previous shed. The gap in the trees at the back on the right of the pic is the road into Ayr. Probably about 6 ft under water.

Pic 5 - Cow on the raised cane train track. It didn't last long there as it got washed off.

Pic 6 - Their pool.

I had "Ocean Views" in front of my place when it flooded the other week - and I live on Fulham Rd. I have also seen a lot worse floods where I live over the years (including the 1998 floods where my parents car died).

It's always funny when cars drive through the floods and it is even more hillarious when cars (especially all the little and older cars) drive through floods and break down. I for one am not game enough to drive through them. Even my Brother wouldn't - and he drives a near new Mitsubishi Triton Ute.

In my rush yesterday I inadvertently forgot to thank elyod for posting the pics yesterday. So, thanks elyod.

Water is going down, they've got land again. The kids had a ball catching fish in the cast net whe3n they were swimming over the road as the water receded .

For those of you who know Groper Creek the water went up about 8 feet under the huts & it's still currently knee high now. For those who don't know all the huts are about 10 feet high. My mate put all his things that were under his hut up 6 feet in preparation for it. Bugger, it's all goonnneee.

The water came up really fast this time. So fast that when one of the people who live there was taking his car to higher ground by the time he got a little way up the road it was at his headlights. He was running around waking everyone up so that they could get things up.

One3 poor bugger who had been away on hols came home during the night & went to bed. No one knew he was home so he didn't get woken. Got up in the morning & his flash Landcruiser was underwater. Doh. No one can get any sort of flood insurance down there as it's a flood zone! Double doh.

Monsoon trough is heading north again now so we'll see how much more rain it brings back.

my grandparents were lucky there didn't have to be evacuated from their homes in mackay.
600mm in the day? my god. never seen anything quite like it. a friend of mine has lost the house...totally flooded and destroyed. needless to say they're pretty upset.
the low is supposed to go back north...as if you guys needed more rain! why can't a big low just develop over the wivenhoe dam?

Well the low is back up our neck of the woods now and I am just watching the radar and there is a definite clockwise movement in the rain bands with what looks to be the center sitting around Dotswood on Harvey's Range....

Stido I remember about 17 or so years ago when the Burdekin was flowing like that.... you had to wade through wast deep water to get onto the bridge, My sister, a friend and myself all walked up the middle of the bridge, the roar of the water and the movement of the bridge is something that I will probably never forget.

I have the perfect flood gauge in my neck of the woods - it's the phone box across the road...lol

have finally seen some pictures of upriver burdekin where i used to live. never seen anything like it. the tramlines have all been destroyed (fat chance they'll be done by july for the crushing), some houses were gone, and i've never seen the burdekin river in flood like it before.
