Mander future uncertain
By Jeff Dunne
December 2, 2005
THE NRL could lose another experienced referee with Tim Mander considering retirement.
Mander is one of the leading referees in the game and handled the NRL grand final last year.
The 43-year-old is expected to make an announcement on his future next week as he is still in discussions with the NRL.
If he does hang up the boots it will put a dent in the top level ranks of the game's whistle blowers after Bill Harrigan retired two years ago.
When contacted yesterday, Mander said: "I've got no comment to make at this stage."
NRL referees boss Robert Finch would not comment either.
It is understood Mander will finalise his future within the next week.

NNNNNNNNNNoooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo oooo!!!!!!!
:pale:
What scares me is that there is a still a chance he might not retire :silent:.
For the record: I do think Mander is a good ref, one of the best in the NRL, just not when refereeing The Cowboys (or Broncos).
He seems to try so hard not to appear biased to Queensland teams that he ends up being biased against them.

Mander would be close to the best ref in the NRL, be a shame to lose his experience.

It used to be Harrigan first, daylight second.
Now it's Mander first, daylight second.

Dont think anyone will upstage his humour bernster. Steve Clarke has something too far up his ass, would penalize someone trying to be freindly with him. Tony Archer could let the best calls rip but still have ppl wanting to smack him cuz his voice is worser then "the nanny"s

Worst yet, Paul Simpkins will more than likely be the number one referee.
* The Minichiello "knock-on" straight into an off-side Chris Walker, thus denying us the small chance we could score a try from the ensuing penalty.
* The Steven Bell "try" in the Melbourne semi-final this year, although Simpkins had a front-row seat view to the knock-on.
Two reasons why he should only referee Canberra, the Warriors and Souths games this year.
