Lockyer, Hindmarsh out of series

8 November 2005

Kangaroos captain Darren Lockyer and forward Nathan Hindmarsh have both been ruled out of the rest of the Tri Nations rugby league series with injury.

Lockyer will be out of action for 2-3 months after suffering a broken bone in his foot while training in Paris on Monday.

Hindmarsh aggravated the knee that kept him out of the NRL finals series during the same session at Surenes Rugby Union Club on the outskirts of the French capital.

A decision will be made in the next couple of days after consultation with the Australian Rugby League on whether either player will return to Australia or if a replacement will be brought in to join the Australian camp.

Lockyer slipped and fell during a game of touch football toward the end of the session. He screamed with pain as he went to the ground and an MRI scan later confirmed the broken bone.

His absence is expected to pave the way for Trent Barrett to move into the starting team at five eighth for the remaining Tri Nations Tests.

I'd love to see Thursty get a call up .... cant imagine it though unfortunately. Curse of the halves? All this hype of Lockyer and Johns finally playing the halves together and what happens? Both end up injured! Cant help injury i suppose ... but to break your foot during a training session?!?!?!?!?!

I pose the following question to you .... Who should replace Lockyer as Captain?

Obviously it will be Buderus. He captained the team in Lockyer's absence last year..

Shame about that injury.. NZ has a chance now...

Steve Price is my choice as well, he leads by example. As for the whole Hindmarsh injury...what a joke, he was obviously never fit and should not have been included in the squad to start with.

I want to know if they only included Hindmarsh becuase Parra chucked the tantrum when he was deemed unfit and not yet recovered in the first session. If thats the case then:

a) the australian selectors shouldnt have been bullied into reselecting him and
b) ha-ha! now becuase they pushed him back to quickly he's done more damage

anyone else think that he wouldnt have been ready to play in the grand final if we hadnt knocked parra out?!?

Buderus to skipper Kangaroos

8 November 2005

The Australian Rugby League Board has formally announced that Newcastle Hooker Danny Buderus will assume the role of Test Captain in the absence of Darren Lockyer.

Lockyer is unable to play again during the tour after suffering a broken bone in his foot yesterday.

Buderus has captained Australia in two previous tests, both against Great Britain in last year’s Tri Series.

He has also captained NSW to two State of Origin Series victories.
