The Dragons have announced the release of hooker Michael Ennis.

Lance Thompson and Shaun Timmins are expected to be released next week to ease the salary cap pressures.

Well they need to do something, they have one of the best rosters around and still cannot win the comp, which is what we love to see.

My money is on Ennis (and most likely the other two also) to be snapped up by the Titans.

Ennis kicked at like over 85% this season and is a class hooker; whoever picks him up has done really well.

This is the reason why i liked the idea of another team, other years ennis would probably have to look overseas because of probably most teams having their buys for the year and nearing their cap

anyone read today's sunday mail (the most factual rag around i know), but lance thompson may be just about ready to get the flick. apparently he stormed out of the player presentations night. he was supposed to get an award, but left before he was announced. the presenter dude had to stand up there until someone told him thompson wasn't there!
both thompson and timmins have been summoned to meetings with nathan brown...
good old sunday mail

Brisbane has agreed to terms with Michael Ennis after the hooker was granted a release from St George Illawarra.

Ennis moved to the Dragons from Newcastle at the end of 2004, but never settled at the Dragons and asked for a release. Struggling with the salary cap, the Dragons agreed to let Ennis go from the final year of his contract.

He played 24 matches for St George Illawarra but only started in eight, but he said that wasn't the sole reason for making a move to the Broncos, where he has signed a two-year deal.

"I almost signed with the Broncos last year, but moved to Sydney - and to the Dragons - to be near my sick father who has since passed away," Ennis told ABC Sport.

"As a country boy, I never really settled in to Sydney living, and I expect moving to Brisbane will be like a breath of fresh air.

"I am also keen to get more game time than I did at the Dragons."

A talented goal-kicker, Ennis will assume the role at Brisbane, where he is expected to beat out Barry Berrigan for the no.9 jersey.

Ennis to the Broncos
Sunday October 09, 2005

The Brisbane Broncos have today announced that St George Illawarra hooker Michael Ennis has agreed to terms on a two-year contract, effective immediately.

Ennis last week asked for a release from the Dragons when he realised the club was experiencing salary cap difficulties. The club agreed and he contacted the Broncos and negotiations were completed last night.

“I almost signed with the Broncos last year, but moved to Sydney – and to the Dragons – to be near my sick father who has since passed away,” he said.

“As a country boy, I never really settled in to Sydney living, and I expect moving to Brisbane will be like a breath of fresh air. I am also keen to get more game time than I did at the Dragons.”

Ennis made 24 NRL appearances for the Dragons in 2005, but 16 of those were from the interchange bench. However he still managed to score 108 points from five tries and 44 goals. In a golden run at season’s end, he landed his final 28 attempts at goal.

Prior to his one-season stint with St George Illawarra, the 21-year-old from Coffs Harbour had made 19 NRL appearances for Newcastle.

Dragons chief executive Peter Doust said his club was aware that Ennis had not settled in to Sydney living and keeping that fact in mind, as well as considering the salary cap issues at the Dragons, a mutual agreement over his release had been reached.

“Michael had a good year with us and we wish well at the Broncos,” he said.

Ennis, who said he was excited about playing under Wayne Bennett at the Broncos, will be in Brisbane in time for the start of pre-season training in early December.

And arrange for it to happen after all the other NRL Clubs have finished their recruiting and would have no room under the salary cap to take him.

Which just about forces Thompson to the UK.
