Have Talent, Will Travel

MORE than 20 of Queensland’s finest young rugby league players are touring Great Britain and France this month, with both the Australian Institute of Sport and Australian Schoolboys teams heading abroad.

Such is the potential of the young band of Maroons that several – Obediah Geia, Nathan Strudwick, Chris Sandow and Israel Folau – have already played QLD Wizard Cup.

That’s without counting boom NRL prospect David Taylor, a late withdrawal from the Australian Schoolboys team after recently representing the Junior Kangaroos.

In total 12 Queensland-based players will feature for the AIS, while 11 from the Sunshine State will play for the national schoolboys side.

The AIS team has already landed in France and will this week play French Under 18 and Under 19 representative teams.

Following this the Aussie will head to Salford to take on the Great Britain Amateurs Under 19s and then England Under 17 at Leeds.

The Australian Schoolboys will not play their first game until November 26, but will pack in a testing schedule that sees them contest seven high-quality games.

A feature of their tour will be a two-match Test series against the England Academy, an outfit which has proved a challenge in recent years.

Aside from the healthy Queensland contingent, there are also a number of southern players who have been signed to QLD Wizard Cup clubs for season 2007.

Wests Tigers NRL player Chris Lawrence will tour with the schoolboys.
