Intercooler to Headline Grand Final

THEY’VE toured America supporting the likes of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Queens of the Stone Age, and rocked out at both Big Day Out and Livid. Now they’re set to take the stage as the main act for this year’s QLD Wizard Cup Grand Final at Suncorp Stadium.

Queensland’s own Intercooler have been confirmed as the latest addition to a day of festivities for the September 16 showdown at the Cauldron.

In a perfect complement to the community ethos of the Wizard Cup, the Brisbane-based four-piece arises from Paddington, adjacent to the game’s spiritual home at the Lang Park precinct.

Aside from Intercooler’s US and festival experience, the ‘local boys made good’ have also toured alongside distinguished outfits such as Gomez, Grinspoon and the Living End. At this year’s Big Day Out they appeared on the same bill as The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand and Iggy Pop.

Intercooler even boasts a link to rugby league’s highest level, courtesy of Townsville-born guitarist Darek Mudge.

Mudge is cousin to former Toowoomba Clydesdales, Brisbane Broncos and Queensland State of Origin forward Ashley Harrison.

Set to accompany Intercooler on the big day are performers from the Brazilian Touch troupe, who’ll be samba-ing, congo-ing and drumming up a storm throughout the afternoon.

A special presentation will be made prior to the main match featuring the 1982 Easts Tigers and 1996 Toowoomba Clydesdales.

The ’82 Tigers were the first winners of the Winfield State League, a forerunner to the Wizard Cup. Meanwhile the ’96 Clydesdales were the first team to win under the modern format.

With three grades of grand finals, a chance to meet Queensland’s FOGS legends and great prizes up for grabs, there’s no reason to miss what could well be the most exciting decider yet.

And remember children under 14 are FREE (ID must be presented on the day. No reservations in advance).

General adult admission is priced at $16, while concession is $9.70. Both prices include free public transport, including use of buses, trains and ferries on the day of the match.
