Redcliffe win Qualifying final

Match Report
28 Aug 2006

Playing before a vocal home crowd on a sun soaked Townsville Sports reserve day, the Toyota Young Guns could not overcome a tough Redcliffe side who played a very controlled game to win 22-8.

Redcliffe achieved a far greater completion rate and made the most of their opportunities in attack.

While the half time score was 6-4 in favour of Redcliffe, the Young Guns found it hard to mount pressure in the second half and let in 3 tries to trail 22-4 before scoring again in the 77th minute of the match.

For Redcliffe Ryan Cullen crossed for 3 tries while for the Young Guns Shane Muspratt and Mark DalleCort in particular had strong games and Brenton Bowen's try in the 24th minute was worth the price of admission.

Generally however the lower than expected completion rate and unforced errors made it hard for the Young Guns to trouble the Redcliffe defence, and Redcliffe were strong enough to take control of the game and go one step closer to a grand final berth.

Redcliffe Dolphins 22 (Ryan Cullen 3, Rory Bromley 1 try, Greg Bourke 3 goals) d Toyota Young Guns 8 (Brenton Bowen, Jamie Frizzo tries).
