He won't ever be a regular member of the Cowboys side..maybe the Cowboys have someone in mind who can replace him and push for a position in the top grade in the future.

Clean out time.
Wouldn't it be better to wait until their season is finished though. It can't be good for morale being told you're not wanted a few days before the finals.

Career Over For Barsley?
Courtesy of the Cairns Post
JASON Barsley's rugby league career looks to be over. The North Queensland Cowboys Young Guns spearhead has been told he is not wanted for next season.
The 28-year-old fullback has been the Young Guns’ best performer in 2006, played for Queensland Residents and coach Mick Crawley claims Barsley is the equal of some regular NRL
fullbacks.
Yet the reality of NRL’s tough business decision-making has been inflicted on the Mareeba junior.
Because of Matt Bowen’s injury-free reign, Barsley has played just four NRL matches in five seasons and with several outstanding youngsters coming through, the Cowboys could not justify Barsley standing in the road of rising talent.
Barsley, who has played roughly 120 state league matches for the Young Guns, Easts Brisbane and Cairns Cyclones, will captain the inexperienced Young Guns against Redcliffe in the Queensland Wizard Cup qualifying final at Dairy Farmers’ Stadium on Sunday.
He will be the team’s most valuable player with so many of the regular 2006 squad injured or in the injury-depleted Cowboys line-up.
Barsley is reluctant to leave his carpentry job in Townsville and his partner is entrenched in a human resources and financial planning career – unless there was a worthwhile offer.
That means he could even be lost to the Queensland Cup – making him one of the best players not to have achieved his NRL dreams.
But Barsley is hardly kicking stones. He will play with his usual enthusiasm as he tries to lead the Young Guns through the next few weeks as they defend their premiership.
"In a sense it is disappointing but I have achieved what a lot of footballers probably could have," Barsley said.
"I played NRL first grade and anything after that I regarded as a bonus.
"Having said that, you’re a long time retired. At 28 I don’t want to give the game away but I mightn’t have many options.
"I wouldn’t go to another Queensland Cup club and I don’t know if I’d play in the local league if I stayed in Townsville. I have never had a manager so it won’t be easy picking up an NRL club either."
Barsley has won more man-of-the-match awards than any other Young Gun player this season.
Cowboys football manager Kelly Egan said for all the positives of having such a good club man as Barsley, it was just not logical to keep him in the NRL structure with so many exciting young outside backs coming through the ranks.
The Young Guns team that takes on Redcliffe will have five teenagers – including 19-year-old Innisfail forward Scott Bolton, who becomes the key man up front.
The others are 17-year-old winger Obe Geia, 18-year-old interchange halfback Brady Payne (brother of Cowboys hooker Aaron), 18-year-old hooker Kam Wilkinson – who have played six games for the Young Guns between them – and back-rower Greg Byrnes, 19, an Atherton junior.

I really do feel for Bars as I would have loved to see him playing for the Cowboys on a regular basis but IMO the management are doiing the right thing. It's harsh, but it's so important they get the promising young kids into the system.
Best of luck for your future Jason & thanks for your effort.

Isn't he signed for next year tho? If not, I bet he can't go without playing next year! Maybe for the Burdekin Roosters, what an asset for the Roosters.
