Clydesdales, Guns showdown

THE Queensland Wizard Cup minor premiership – and coveted weekend off in the first week of the finals – will go on the line at Townsville's Dairy Farmers Stadium this Saturday night.
And the game to decide top spot will feature one of the state's great sporting rivalries – the North Queensland Cowboys' feeder team, the Young Guns, against the Brisbane Broncos' feeder, Toowoomba Clydesdales.
Toowoomba goes into the final round in first place on 30 points, level with the Young Guns but ahead under the Queensland Cup rule that the team with more wins is ranked higher. The Clydesdales have won 15 and the Young Guns 14.
The Young Guns could be weakened by NRL commitments with the Cowboys playing Newcastle after the Young Guns-Clydesdales clash in an NRL match that will decide their season.
Toowoomba kept its minor premiership hopes alive with a 48-22 win over Souths Logan on Saturday while the Young Guns could manage only a 26-all draw with Wynnum Manly.
Redcliffe cannot unseat either of the top sides despite a commanding 40-10 win over Tweed on Saturday because the Dolphins have the bye in round 22 (no points are awarded for the bye).
The shock 30-50 loss by fifth-placed Easts to bottom side Ipswich on Saturday has thrown the race for the last finals spot wide open.
The Tigers (20 points) travel to Rockhampton this Saturday for a vital clash with the Comets, fresh from an 18-16 upset win over Norths, knowing a slip could cost them a finals berth.
Fourth-placed Tweed Heads (20) play Wynnum on Sunday while Burleigh (19) will take on suddenly in-form wooden spooners Ipswich on Sunday, knowing its only chance to progress will be to win and hope Wynnum can beat the Seagulls at Piggabeen.
