Attack dog Webb snapping at leash

QUEENSLAND enforcer Carl Webb says he can't wait to be let off the leash for the opening hostilities of rugby league State of Origin II.
The blockbusting backrower has been elevated to the Maroons' starting line-up for Wednesday night's clash and has promised to make up for a self-confessed "shocker" in the series opener.
Webb said being on the field when referee Steve Clark gets the game under way will only help his and Queensland's cause.
He came off the bench in Origin I with NSW already well on top thanks to the likes of Willie Mason and Mark O'Meley but has vowed not to let the Blues gain the upper hand again.
"It is a real privilege to start for Queensland and I do not want to let the team down at all because the first 10 minutes or so is very, very important," Webb said.
"That's what Origin footy is all about, it's the best footy you can play so I want to be in there getting amongst it.
"I honestly think being out there at the start suits me because you get stuck into the contest straight away and get into the pace of the game.
"I'd prefer to start, like any footballer, and hopefully we can give the side a really good platform for the rest of the match in those first 10 or 15 minutes because we don't want to be playing catch-up again.
"I'm really looking forward to it because this will be only the second time I've started for Queensland and I want to make it count."
Webb said the Queensland forwards didn't need heavy criticism after Origin I to know they have to lift.
"We really copped it after the first game but we didn't need to hear all that stuff from people outside the team," he said.
Webb endorsed the selection of Maroons bolter – and Cowboys team-mate – Jacob Lillyman.
He said the backrower was perfect for Origin football.
"He's rough, he's tough and he's a good old country boy who rides bulls in his spare time so I'm sure he'll be fine," Webb said.
