REDCLIFFE v NORTH QUEENSLAND
Dolphin Oval, Sunday May 21, 3.00pm.
Referee: Phil Haines
THE STORY: The most anticipated battle of the year, with the Dolphins and Young Guns tied on top of the ladder. Redcliffe has lost hooker Michael Roberts with an elbow injury, while half Marty Turner (foot, hamstring) is in doubt. North Queensland is without Scott Bolton, away on Queensland Under 19 duty.
THE STAT: Rory Bromley is the only member of last year’s premiership-winning Young Guns side to be playing for another Wizard Cup club this year. He was forced to earn his stripes in FOGS Cup for the Dolphins, but is now holding down a wing spot in A Grade.
THE STAR: Josh Hannay had his best game of the year for North Queensland against Burleigh last weekend. He and Redcliffe’s Greg Bourke are leading the race to become the competition’s highest point-scorer in 2006. Bourke has 112 points and Hannay has 84 so far.
CHANGES: REDCLIFFE – In: Richie Russell. Out: Michael Roberts
NORTH QUEENSLAND – In: Shane Muspratt, Robert Tanielu, Greg Byrnes, Daniel Strickland. Out: Scott Smith, Scott Bolton, Sam Faust, Dean Limpus.

Former Young Gun helps Dolphins steal win
By ADAM GARDINI
22may06
POOR ball security and a member of last year's premiership-winning side came back to haunt the North Queensland Young Guns in a last-minute 16-14 loss to Redcliffe at Dolphin Oval yesterday.
Former winger Rory Bromley, who wasn't re-signed by North Queensland at the end of last season, landed the killer blow for Redcliffe with a try in the last play of the game just seconds out from full-time. Bromley levelled the scores at 14-all before centre Greg Bourke slotted the conversion to seal the win and hand the home side the outright lead of the Queensland Cup after 10 rounds. The Young Guns had earlier fought their way back from a 10-0 deficit at halftime after paying the price for completing at just 50 per cent during the opening 40 minutes.
Young Guns coach Mick Crawley said while his side's ball security had improved in the second half, they had used up too much petrol defending as a result of their own mistakes.
"It was heartbreaking to lose but we probably didn't deserve to win," Crawley said.
"They showed us we've got to control the ball.
"Even though we've got a talented side and talented players, if you don't complete your sets against a top-of-the-table side you're not going to get away with the game.
"It was a physical game and to win those sorts of games you've got to look after the footy. We just failed to do that."
The result marked the Young Guns' second loss of the year and saw them surrender the competition lead, dropping to equal second with Toowoomba.
Despite the loss captain Daniel Strickland made a successful return from an Achilles tendon injury, leading the charge up front alongside props Ray Cashmere and Robert Tanielu.
"The big blokes were doing the job for us but every time we went to go to the edge we put the football down," Crawley said.
Crawley said interchange halfback Brent McConnell had injected some spark during a 25-minute stint at first receiver in the second half after being used briefly at hooker in the opening half.

Match Report 22 May 2006
REDCLIFFE 16 d NORTH QUEENSLAND 14
ONE OF the biggest Wizard Cup crowds of the season has witnessed Redcliffe steal a 16-14 win over North Queensland courtesy of a try to Rory Bromley just 20 seconds before fulltime.
Playing against his former team, winger Bromley had the nous to bring the ball around near the goalposts after crossing, allowing Greg Bourke a relatively easy conversion to secure the result.
In what was billed in some quarters as a grand final preview, Redcliffe led 10-0 at halftime before the Young Guns scored 14 unanswered points.
It took a heroic effort from hooker Michael Roberts to spur the home side to victory in a highly physical encounter which attracted 3000 patrons to Dolphin Oval.
With fears he had dislocated his elbow during the week, Roberts was initially ruled out of the clash. However, on the eve of the match he pleaded with coaching staff to be included.
His grittiness proved invaluable, with the loss of halfback Marty Turner leaving the Dolphins short-handed in the ball-playing department.
After starting as a rake, Roberts shifted to half late in the game and threw the decisive cut-out pass which put backrower Gerard Parle into space. Parle then offloaded to centre Nick Emmett, who delivered the ball to the flying Bromley.
The result sees Redcliffe take the outright lead on the Wizard Cup ladder, leaving North Queensland tied with Toowoomba for second spot.
In an affair where both sides scored three tries, it was goal kicks which made the difference on a blustery day. Struggling with the ?Redcliffe Doctor', usually reliable Josh Hannay landed just one conversion for North Queensland.
Round 11 sees North Queensland host Wynnum Manly at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Saturday, while Redcliffe travels away to the Piggabeen Complex to face Tweed Heads.
REDCLIFFE 16 (Michael Roberts, Grant Flugge, Rory Bromley tries; Greg Bourke 2 goals) d NORTH QUEENSLAND 14 (Josh Hannay, Neil Sweeney, Jamie Frizzo tries; Josh Hannay goal) at Dolphin Oval.
